What to expect?

The new clusters will provide an outlet for girls rugby in Wales.  There are 28 cluster centres across the country providing the opportunity for girls U9s to U15s to play rugby. Sessions will be fun and tailored to the levels of the participants at each cluster. Girls will have the option to try contact or stay playing no contact through tag or touch rugby.

All Under 9s will start off by playing Tag only and then progress into early contact as they reach U11s or continue playing tag if that suits them or if they are new to the game.

Can my child just turn up or do I need to register with the cluster?

You do not need register your daughter beforehand.  You are welcome to attend training sessions at any point in the season.

What kit shall I bring?

We advise you bring warm clothing suitable for outdoor sports and suitable if it rains. If you are Under 11/U13/U15 then you will need a gumshield unless you only opt to play tag or touch. If you haven’t played rugby before you do not need to go out and buy expensive rugby boots, trainers will be suitable for the first few sessions.

What if my daughter has never played rugby before?

The cluster will aim to ensure new participants are able to adapt to the game at their own pace. Sessions will range from tag rugby through to touch and full contact depending on the participants needs and desires.

How is the season structured?

The season starts the end of April and runs until the end of July with training mid-week and games on Sunday mornings. There will be a mix of internal competitions and inter-cluster festivals to meet the different levels of participants.

Will there be a cost?

Each centre will operate slightly differently, there will be no charge for taster sessions, but if your daughter decides she would like to join the cluster there will be an affiliation fee.
